"The Experimental Novelist" is a seven minute long track that was recorded at the sessions for our LP Sanity Testing. It was left off the record as we didn't have space. We have pressed up fifty copies and made covers ourselves by hand. The front covers are all unique and printed on genuine manuscript pages from one of Simon's novels. Each copy is hand numbered and signed by all the band.

NB It was mistakenly pressed at 33rpm because Simon was pissed when he did the order but it sounds ace. The track is not available to listen to on Bandcamp because we are perverse bastards. Sorry about that.

To be a Sheffield grinder it is no easy trade There’s more than you’d imagine to the grinding of a blade The strongest man amongst us is old at thirty-two There’s few who brave such hardships as we poor grinders do Every working day, we are breathing dust and steel And a broken stone can give a man a wound that will not heal There’s many a poor grinder struck down by such a blow There’s few who brave such hardships as we poor grinders do There’s many a poor grinder whose family is large With all his best endeavours cannot his debts discharge His children cry for bread, oh how pitiful the view There’s few who brave such hardships as we poor grinders do There’s many a poor grinder too soon been snatched away Without a moment’s warning to meet his judgement day Before his judge he must attest, his final doom to know There’s few who brave such hardships as we poor grinders do So now we must conclude these few and humble lines Good luck to every grinder who labours in hard times I wish him better fortune and all his family too There’s few who brave such hardships as we poor grinders do

Things 04:19
Things... Things... What kind of things? All kinds of things Everywhere All over the fucking place You can hardly move for things getting better You get up in the morning you go down the street There’s a better class of dogshit under you feet That’s one thing you know that’s getting better Better better better better better And you see the same shit everywhere you go Round the house and in your face and in your clothes Things getting better better better Yeah I can hardly contain myself now Oh shit used to be awful in the olden days Everything was broken You couldn’t put your shit anywhere without getting it knocked over by some twat In the daytime, in the evening, In your hearing, in your sight Going over and out of your mind With things now are getting better Better better better better better Things... getting better... Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggghhhhh! Fuck it. Fuck the lot of ‘em Ah shit. I used to prefer things when they were getting worse. Ah shit. I preferred people when they stunk a bit But now everybody smells fucking fantastic Things getting better better Getting better everywhere you go Gah! Fuck it all! I’ll be glad when I’m dead If I’m lucky I might have twenty minutes left I’ll do my best to fuck that up yup Things yep getting better better better better Fuck the lot of them. Why do they bother? Fuck making new tunes. Fuck making new shit Play the same shit Play the same shit Play the same shit Over and over and over again Quit while you’re a head Shove your anthems up your arse

Occupied 05:37
I’m just a straight-up guy who’s heard too many lies I seen them petrify into this crumbling edifice Don’t he just look a sight? I can’t believe my eyes I’m frankly horrified it should have come to this Are you educated? Are you educated? Are you educated Yet? Are you agitated? Are you agitated? Are you agitated yet? Are you organised? Or otherwise occupied? I don’t have all the clues I can’t make no sense of it There’s them as say they do... could you really give a shit? How do you hope to pull it off when it’s bogan versus toff? How will you know when to stop when your boss calls out the cops? eh? Chorus And when they come for us that doesn’t mean you’re off the hook You might not fight or fuss. That just makes you twice as fucked So what’s the use of all your bitching now the cops are in the kitchen? They’ll be rooting through the knife rack. It’s a bit too late to fight back You can’t choose your future. You can choose your company I don’t want your future I don’t want it choosing me Chorus

Zardoz! Zardoz! Zardoz! Sean Connery in a g-string File that under those can’t unsee things We Told Ya We Told Ya We Told Ya so Death Race 2000, Logan’s Run 1984, Fahrenheit 451 Escape From New York, Repo Man Kin Dza-Dza, Letters from A Dead Man Back to the Future, They Live! How many fucks can one man give? We Told Ya We Told Ya We Told Ya so

I’ve had nothing to eat today except for fingernails Because that’s how I have to live in this fairy tale The ends of my hands all ragged and bleeding Coz that’s what they look like after a damn good feeding You think this is bad? This is nothing You think this is bad? You should see what’s coming You think this is bad? Wait there’s more You think this is bad? You won’t believe what they’ve got in store And where did Sönke hide the stationery? I had to write these words on bog roll I tell you... It’s a fucking miracle That I could find a working biro I’ll think back to the words of Kurt Vonnegut Next time sitting on the toilet I like peanut butter and vegemite And a slice a bread if you’re fortunate Chorus I spilled my beer all over the bog roll I can’t read these words no more That was the last stubby that I had in the fridge And I can’t be arsed going up the bottle-o Can’t be arsed going up the bottle-o Can’t be arsed going up the bottle-o They could send a drone for you tomorrow Or maybe just an ice cunt and a shiv One day you’ll wake up murdered in the car park (That’s no way to live!) Chorus

You read your Holy Bible, Matthew does recall Pestilence and earthquake and also the rumours of war You know it’s Jah’s own will, the prophecy fulfill All those strange things happening in the land Strange things happening in the land Strange things happening in the land Wars going on cause our hearts to moan There’s strange things happening in the land Nation against nation rising in the land Kingdom against kingdom, you’d better understand No need to be surprised, the end is drawing nigh There’s strange things happening in the land Chorus Daniel wrote about it and John the Revelator too Jesus substantuated so the prophecy must come true You know that jah don’t lie. He knows a man must die There’s strange things happening in the land Chorus The Kaiser said to Wilson “Take your vessels off of the sea” Wilson said to the Kaiser “You let my vessels be” Now he’s treating us so mean with all those dreadful sumbarines And those strange things happening in the land

Evil Shit 04:33
Get down! Go sideways! Diagonal! Orthogonal! Right-angled! New-fangled! Star spangled! Cock dangled! My brains are like Swiss cheese It’s not the holes that are the problem It’s all the stuff that’s in between The stuff that’s yellow and that’s rotten Ah ah ah Evil Shit. I’ve had enough of it Ah ah ah Evil Shit. It’s getting on my tits Coming at you from another direction Coming at you from another dimension I think of Corbyn eating beans Out of the tin like you and me Does he use a spoon or just his hands? Or down in one like a real man? Chorus All the toffs are mad on Evil Shit They can’t get enough of it They’re gonna bring it up your road Gonna shove it up your nose Olfactory agents! Sonic agents! Visual agents! Rectal agents! Even coming for you up your arse All things must pass! Same shit for a thousand years (x3) Coming down fast on the working class Same shit for a thousand years (x3) I’ve fucking had it up to here Same shit for a thousand years (x3) Baked potato, cheese and beans Spud Spud Spud-U-Lie ad nauseum
